It’s only after the first fifty years they actually qualify to regard themselves as locals
It would take a second fifty years before real locals, would regard Robert or Lynda as locals.

Emma. On the other hand… Local as the day is long… Born in Ambridge with a Carter Sire and a Horrobin as Dam.
What could be more local?

The Horrobin side may be Ambridge, but Neil is as much a blow-in as Lynda; he’s a townie from Oxfordshire.

But Emma was born in Ambridge.

Robert and that Snell woman have no such claim.
Nor have they bred, whilst in the village… They’re just ruddy nuisance foreigners and should be taken out and horse-whipped.
