You see why I thought ‘The Alien Corn’ was that one, don’t you?
Not sure I do, exactly, although I have had an enjoyable time trying to see Alice and Susan as Ruth and Naomi and failing dismally ;- )
Should be required reading for children whose besotted parents assure them that they can be anything they want to be, though. Particularly in gun-owning households.
Nothing subtle (that wouldn’t be me), just that Alice might be feeling that ‘Chris’s baby’ is not hers, is an alien. Which is why I thought ‘Alien Corn’ was the title of the story that is actually ‘The Unconquered’. Coz of what she did, if you see what I mean. Won’t say any more in case anyone wants to read it. Or them.
Ah yes, makes perfect sense now: sorry ;- )
Dear god, I’d need to drink and drink and drink if I had a husband who spoke to me as Chris spoke to Alice tonight. He’s getting worse if anything.
He’s a Compleat Arse, imo. I would happily stand Alice a pint or two.
Well just look at his social climbing grasping jailbird of a mother
He had little example from her and less than from his father who was more interested in pigs than in his family
If I were their husband/father I’d be more interested in pigs too.
Funny how that’s fine for ‘were I their father’ but a leeetle disturbing under the husband hat…
