Not sure I do, exactly, although I have had an enjoyable time trying to see Alice and Susan as Ruth and Naomi and failing dismally ;- )
Should be required reading for children whose besotted parents assure them that they can be anything they want to be, though. Particularly in gun-owning households.

Nothing subtle (that wouldn’t be me), just that Alice might be feeling that ‘Chris’s baby’ is not hers, is an alien. Which is why I thought ‘Alien Corn’ was the title of the story that is actually ‘The Unconquered’. Coz of what she did, if you see what I mean. Won’t say any more in case anyone wants to read it. Or them.
