Knittery and Stitchery and Stuff

Do you think that Gus could stitch or Fishers could knit some patches for a leaky conservatory roof, Twellsy? Buckets, bowls and towels must suffice until the rain stops and we have a roofer, I think.

I can tell you that our conservatory roof leaks happily and I feel like putting plants in strategic places to use the water

Thank goodness for tiled floors

And thirded.

Do you not use a frame, Gus?

Fourthed.

That’s really lovely, Dahlink.

You’re very kind.

I don’t use a frame for tiny stuff. See thumb for scale below. For larger pieces, definitely!

It’s exquisite, Dahlink

Congratulations.

Gosh! I hadn’t realised just how tiny it is. My admiration is even greater now.

Okaaaay, my cross stitch kit has arrived. Looks as though, before I can start, I can have fun sorting this lot out.

Clearly what you need is an Anti-Kitten.

Nice idea but each thread is only a couple of feet long so I doubt that would work. I plan to sort them into same-colour bundles and tie each bundle loosely with knitting yarn. I think that will work.

Do you get a crib to say which colour is what and goes where? Or do you simply have to guess, or use your feminine intuition, or something?

There is a chart to follow, thankfully, though where the colours are similar it’s a little difficult to be sure you’re picking out the correct one. I hope that will be easier once I’ve sorted them so that I can more easily see that e.g. the one I want is the darker of the two greens.

It can be very useful with colours that are similar to tape a small - 2am or less -length of each next to the key which accompanies the chart, if there is one. If not (and if this is a printed canvas it may well not have one) tape them in whatever order makes sense to you onto a piece of white card. Do this in (what passes for, these days) daylight.

Happy stitching!

Sometimes , for tapestry, there is a printed colour key at the edge of the canvas. This might have one.

A brilliant suggestion! Yes, there is a such a key, and some of the colours are very similar, so it shall be done.
