Is it really surprising that Steph wants her mother there? That Vince has only just realised it might be a bit awkward for him if he turns up with his new squeeze on his arm just indicates that he’s a nitwit, I feel.

I don’t reckon that’s the problem. All that FotB and ‘nervous as a kitten’* bilge leads me to suspect that he is going to turn out to be frightened of doing the FotB speech with Widderbeth in the audience.
*and that’s a stupid expression. Kittens are notorious arseholes and given, if anything, to being over-bold.

I was thinking that it was Steph who was lying to her dad about there not being room for Elizabeth.
P.S. Agree about the boldness of kittens. I am taking care of two at the moment - visits twice daily.

Except that a] she knows and likes her, and approves of her relationship with Vince, and b] she invited Lily and Russ to come, and would surely have realised that they wouldn’t conceal it from Elizabeth.
