Radio Times Ambridge Diary Aug 26-31

Jim continues with his quest to give Alistair a purpose in life and finally seems to have hit the nail on the head with one idea. But when Jazzer ploughs in with his size nines and knocks Alistair’s confidence with an insensitive joke, it’s left to Jim to point out just how much his son has gone through these past months.
Elizabeth is attempting to put on a brave face following last week’s shock revelation, but is soon facing trauma of a different kind at the council offices. Will Oliver manage to save the day for her?
Susan is struggling under the weight of her secrets and ends up admitting everything to Clarrie. And Helen is in need of a break as Henry’s behaviour worsens.

It’s fascinating, really. In normal dramatic writing, you build up the tension with the familiar thing, and then release it with the surprising resolution. But here they’ve turned that completely round. Truly the BBC drama department is pushing the frontiers of literature.
