So, who wants to help ... to cavort in the cellar?

I hate hanging about waiting for tradesmen who said they would arrive at “about nine” so that I needed to wake up at eight to be ready for them…

At least you have time to get the oil up to a nice rolling boil.

Doesn’t take an hour…

Do you reckon it would be reasonable to ring him and ask whether he actually plans to turn up today?

The last time that Mr Bee did that sort of thing, it turned out that the Bee had got the day wrong. Be careful and sure, Fishers.

He is at a job which ran over last night and hoped to be with us by ten; he’ll ring when he’s heading this way. He is very sorry. I growled at him in a good-humoured but don’t mess me about any more sort of way…

Gah. Could have sent a text, or rung, yesterday. And of course today isn’t the day next door have a gardener who starts hedge-trimming and lawn-moving work at eight-fifteen, that was last week.

I once wrote “Lines Penned On Viewing the Distant Prospect of a Full Eight Hours’ Sleep.”, but that was a subtitle to “Could We Afford To Board?” when my children were at the Early Morning stage of their lives. I wasn’t expecting adults to conspire to rob me of my sleep entitlement.

Grrr.

Finally he rang. It would now be two thirty to three before they got to us and they wouldn’t be able to do the job in the time. Very very apologetic, can they start first thing on Monday instead.

I told him that I expected first thing on Monday and if he wasn’t able to turn up, let me know the night before so I didn’t bother to get up early just for his benefit if he wasn’t going to be there.

I am Not Happy, but I suppose a postponed arrangement is better than none.

bah.

Infuriating.

Still… Today is not entirely lost.

The awning replacement people just rang me back (after being rung on Thursday, so I had basically given up on them) and arranged to come and look at the wreckage and quote for either replacement cloth (my preferred option) or a new blind altogether, in a mere ten days time, with a fortnight to be expected before it is fitted. Which is a minor victory. And since I have to be on deck on Tuesday mornings anyway, I shan’t be being dragged early from my pit.

Just got back to Ottawa and saw this. Oops, what a shame! Could happen to any one, really. As you probably know, Canadian state schools are public schools, and I can’t count how many times I’ve seen the ‘L’ blanked out.

I was a bit puzzled as to what ‘Placettes Publiques’ was in English and it’s ‘Uncommon Spaces’. It’s all a short walk from where I live, so I must go and have a look.

will be sure to be a requirement in that case; rallying is thirsty work.

Yes it is and the hotel has a nice beer brewed locally - a blonde IPA which is delightful

And the glasses have a puffin on them

Gotta be good if the logo is a puffin…

Lovely Rook, but with a very empty crop! I hope that this pic was taken before you proffered copious beetles, grain etc.

Do you know our wee birdie?

AKA the bottomless pit?

Wee birdie may turn its beak up at roadkill - that would be welcomed by its new pal.
