Most people’s games were too big to bring with them, but there were some card games carrying on while we waited. (No fire, of course.)
My all-time favourite was the one at about eleven in the evening, when all the attending children had gone to bed and so their mums had to go contra-flow up the stairs to collect tired and frightened children from their rooms. In the aftermath the hotel manager (who was in pyjamas and dressing-gown) stood in the main room, which easily held eight hundred, and explained that the alarm had been set off by some people messing about in the health club in the basement and they were going to have to work out some way to ensure this didn’t happen again. A sort of growl rose from the mothers, and one of them said “Give them to us” in a truly ominous voice.
A memorable fire alarm for me (and a few others, I guess) occurred at my all-girls hostel at college. One of my friends decided to set off the alarm at midnight to see all of the boys pile out down the drainpipes etc. and leg it across campus.

For a small birdie, ye pack a punch when the chips are down.
Our dinner has been seafood gratin with caramelised apple. Tasty enough and the gulls weren’t anywhere near.

Today’s
yardarm
is certified as gull-proof, damp-proof, proof against fire and bombs through the roof, and is cunningly inlaid with upas wood, further proofin’ it against pretty much all comers.
Yes, but is it Twellsy-proof? She does know not to hang her trapeze from it?
WHEEE EEEHW
What a great trapeze hanging point
Thank you Gus

Talking of birds landing (and hurrah!) a daft Robin flew into my shin earlier this evening (I was sitting rather still and calculatin’ and no lights were on).
Oof.

For some reason, that is just Very Ringo. He never did do polite or tact all that much, back then.
Lidl’s own baked goods, Rowan Hill, now make crumpets that are called “toaster crumpets” and are about the same size across as a slice of bread, but thicker and with holes in. Also three times as much for four as six ordinary crumpets. I am not at all sure why I would buy such a thing.
Have lit a couple of the Noo tealights wot were delivered today.
Thank-you very much.
Apart from using the facilities, I swept until 3pm today.

A much needed rest, I imagine.
We’ve been childminding for a good part of the day and are looking forward to some shut-eye, too.
