So, who wants to help ... to flummox the cellar?

He slept downstairs again, but was cheerful and friendly this morning and ate his breakfast. He’s now gone out. So (touch wood) he’s ok, thanks. I shall keep an eye on him though.

Dynamite? Not tried it and can’t say I’m seriously tempted to.

That’s a relief.

I’m very tempted to try Dynamite myself, reports suggest it is very good with cheese on toast and I can see that it could be. I shall add it to my next online order and report back.

I can see that working rather well. Or you could get some Dragon’s Breath cheddar…

Oooh, you temptress!

The limited edition Dragon’s Breath Mini Cheddars are rather dangerous good as well…

Marmite frequently faff about with new flavours. Those of us who like Marmite sigh gently and wait for them to get over it. They have so far.

This stuff?

The chance that they’ve got the right ratio of marmite and chilli for my specific taste seems vanishingly low. There are too many things which use a bit of chilli in an attempt to cover up the lack of good-quality ingredients (or salt and sugar, which they used to use), rendering them incompatible with the Fish, while not having enough chilli to make an interesting flavour for the Bird; so we both tend to spurn them.

On the other hand, marmite on toast with some of my favourite chilli sauce, now that seems worth trying.

Now see what you’ve done, TFM.

Oof

Small drumroll please

DiL has been & shown me her wedding outfit. I have added the all-important details, such as my stonkingly good fascinator, & sorted a suitable wrap for her.

A first, on so many levels. She hasn’t been in this house for 18 months, so it was emotional for both of us.

We were both masked, wearing those wretched disposables, which I hate, but were suitable this time. She has to wear them all day at work anyway.

I have loved, not liked, Marmite for a little over 65 years (so I’m told, I don’t remember the first few) and I try every new flavour and every new combination, That doesn’t ever mean replacing the original, it means eating more Marmite. The only thing I haven’t really liked at all is the Marmite cashews - there’s something about the flavour combination that doesn’t seem quite right to me, though I’ve always thought peanuts would be splendid.

And speaking of different Marmites, can anyone remember when the consistency (and flavour, to a v small extent) of the basic product changed? It doesn’t seem that many years ago to me, so given the way my memory works it was probably 2 or 3 decades.

Sowweee. (It wasn’t the reaction I expected from the sparrer at the mention of dynamite though.)

I was also a little surprised.

They aren’t saying when it changed, seemingly.

You really liked the Marmite chocolate? Good gracious. Well, I suppose some people had to…

Yes, I remember when Marmite became runnier and slightly less salty. I have been mildly deploring it ever since. You are the first person I have ever known to remark on it; indeed, I have been told often enough that I was simply wrong about it to have stopped bothering to mention the matter at all.

Harumph! We actually had a conversation about this.
< sulks in dark and brooding, not to say Marmitish, manner. fortissimo >

Thanks for that. I knew they denied any change but at least I have company in my opinion that it definitely did. It s the consistency that is the big giveaway imo, with the original you could scoop out a big lump and it would stay on your knife whereas if you try that now you get a dribble running down onto the table/plate.

Ah, you’ve got me there, I never even knew that existed but then I never even go anywhere near the chocolate displays in shops.

Aaargh! That drives me bluddy mad(der). Those ripply dribbles that no amount of twisting the knife can control. I’ll try the runny Marmite with tabasco on oatcakes, mañana.
