When I were a very small Gus and was staying with my grandparents, the sweetshop in the village nearest to the hamlet in which they lived was the front room of Miss \_\_\_\_\_’s house. I used to walk there with grandad, stopping on the way to feed the swans. The day grandad bought me a gobstopper there is writ in the annals of Infamy/A Bloke Can’t Do Anything Right. Gobstoppers is common, you see, and my grandmother was having none of that. Grandad, and most other folk within earshot, no doubt just wanted me to shut up. (A delightful old gentleman at the cricket once said I put him strangely in mind of Tennyson’s brook.) Back to the point. Sweetshops with the big jars and the scales, and the quarter of whatever. Cough candy. Those toffee things covered in a thick powdery sugary coating. Sherbet lemons. I could go on for… I should probably try and make some netted sunbeam or other dance, a challenging task at this hour. ---

That’s just it, Bee: swwrltshps are evocative. Sweetshops, even. The Moffat place made me want a time machine so I could get my _gran_ some of her favourites. Not a gobstopper, nor yet an sherbet dab (horrors!) obviously. Thank you. I have every intention of enjoying the Frivolling, as long as it involves at least one good cattle raid 🐄. Or, snafflin coobeastie, according to taste. ---

I must tell about my summer job and weekend job as well in a newsagent cum sweet shop It took one Saturday of weighing out sweets to cure me from having a sweet from the big jar As for the penny sweet tray that was a nightmare to serve Childer with 10p aiming for quantity of sweets 🍬 and me wanting to go on my fag break with tea and buns provided by the shop owner I frequently felt like grabbing a handful of sweets and shoving them into a bag and stuffing it into the child’s hand ---

Farmers’ market was a wonderful cornucopia of gorgeous veg Including fresh corn on ye cob in its natural wrapping and silk and Irish made salami with hazlenuts Then at the nice greengrocer I obtained a nice purple cauliflower And rich purple figs ---

Aye - well done to the Boss! I know exactly what I’d like brought to me but, alas, I am way off anywhere - as per! Never mind - a bee can dream.
