You could make a good case for Stanislav Petrov, too (“if the Americans are making a first strike, why are we only seeing five launches?”). ---

“Please stay on the line. We’ll be with you as soon as we can.” has a certain poetic ring after the first forty repetitions… ---

Please stay on the line. We’ll be with you as soon as we can. Tracy is still throwing up in the break room; I told her last night the Widow’s Kiss was a mistake. If you sound male, you don’t want to talk to Alice in her present mood. And I am only waiting for Cathy to arrive so that I can go and pick up my “coughing” child from the nursery. Please stay on the line. We’ll be with you as soon as we can. ---

All now sorted, and explained by cashback. I found the receipt for a Tesco visit which ended in 14 pence. I have also discovered that my shiny new crap-phone cuts off any call at five minutes or thenabouts, which is a nuisance if you are in a queue ten minutes long. ---
