I was feeling a bit grumpy last night because one of my two pale blue face-cloths, the soft and comfortable ones, has been getting a bit thin in the centre, and is now slowly developing a hole. In fact I was downright cross about the poor quality this displayed and how things were not as good as they used to be.

This peeve passed when I remembered that my mother got them for me in 1968.

That’s impressive. Doubly so, in fact: how on earth do you remember which year particular facecloths came into your life?

It was when I left home, or rather, stopped being there all the time. Before then I used the white ones we all had, which were ours for a week and then boiled while each of us had a new one from the hot-airing cupboard, but when you are not at home for most of the year that system doesn’t work.

It didn’t work when I had conjunctivitis and needed to have a new face-cloth every day either, but that was only for six weeks when I was nine.

Ah. All is now clear on that front.

What is not clear to me at the moment is how it is that I seem to be brewing a cold. How? Whut? WHY?

< suspicious > Fishy, why are you impersonating That Sparrer?

The aforementioned quadruped decided to knead my oxter this morning, purring like an idling Routemaster. Hairy fool!

White face cloths in this house for the cleansing routine - can’t use soap on my face. They go in the Blessed Milton before the Washeen. Coloured facecloths fer everywhere else & those mittens/gentle body scrubs for the shower.

I was delighted to hear, on the World Service last night, that ā€œscientistsā€ think they may have found a way to save coral reefs by making them better able to withstand sea temperatures rising. Good news if true.
