So, who wants to help... to perpetuate the cellar?

Sympathetic Hug, Dunnock

At least it has been done early enuff. Waiting until September to find out wouldn’t have been good.

Indeed.

I’m just going to have to organise my own Essen. With blackjack! And hookers!

And bacon butties and beer?

Blackjack, hookers and Currywurst

Oddly enough I have never observed either blackjack or hookers at Essen. (I’m sure they’re there, I mean it’s a trade show venue, but they must be at least slightly subtle.) Currywurst is easier to find.

If you want the authentic Essen food experience, that’ll be a very salty pretzel and a Sausage With No Name for €7. Or the one really good thing there, a spiral of deep-fried potato about a foot tall.

I approve of that potato methodology. Unless I am much mistaken, the surface area of the spiral is greater than for the same volume of spud cooked as chips, thus increasing both the fat content of the product and opportunities for salt / sauce adhesion.

I NEED the tool for making such spuds

I could play with all sorts of things

I wonder if Ken has an attachment for spiral spuds

Well, an individual slice is thinner than a chip, so it seems very likely…

“Essen” is the very definition of “food experience”. Well, along with “Trinken”…

Have been to collect my prescription, so shopped for fruit & veg, cheese, & meat.

The cheese shop had cheese flavoured with Henderson’s Relish…

The unofficial boardgamers’ restaurant guide is called “Essen im Essen”.

Yer native Ruhrgebiet beer is mostly “I’ve been sweating in the ironworks all day, I need something more or less isotonic”. On the other hand practically every establishment I’ve been to in Essen serves Köstritzer.

Not the best, but it’s come over all coy; other days it’s been up on the table. Possibly more cautious because it’s getting more independent? Before now one or both of the adults would be around too.

It is a strange thing but Tesco seem to have started to add little bonuses to deliveries around here. Last week I found 2 tins of Heinz minestrone soup lurking at the bottom of a bag, that I hadn’t ordered or paid for, the week before it was vintage cheddar. My neighbour received a bonus bunch of bananas this week and OMCB got two whole cucumbers, but I beat them both hands down today with a bottle of Blossom Hill - not exactly what I might’ve chosen but definitely the winner all the same.

Ooh, Treats

The 1st Mrs C’s niece works at Morrisons in Clifton, Notts as their ‘Communities’ Supervisor.

She is very busy ATM delivering boxes of food & other necessities to the elderly & vulnerable. She makes sure that everyone gets a Treat in their box, paid for by Morrisons.

She has taken over the Pickling Mantle from her Grandmother & Mother* & sells them to raise funds for days out & all sorts of nice things. She bakes too.
Because she is the Supervisor she has the last word on the local charities/good causes put forward by the rest of the staff.

*The 1st Mrs C’s Fambly were/are all Cooks , apart from her, so running canteens/kitchens , & catering for large numbers is fine.
