Anyone know what one of these is?
The correct colour is actually a light brown; this was taken under some cheap LEDs. Span of the wing-cases is about an inch.
I’ve been seeing them about the place for years but never managed to work out what they are, so I’ve been calling them “T flies” for obvious reasons.
I thought someone did recognise it; can’t remember what it was now, though.
I don’t, Hedgers. Are they associated with your pond? You could narrow down your search if just looikg for aquatic flies. Mr Soo is our resident entomologist - he’s visiting his Ma, so I’ll ask him on his return.
Had a grand walk by the River Tyne, this afternoon.

We are in the middle of a rather violent storm ATM,so I may just have an Medicinal Brandy & a lie down…

Here you go:
Narrowing it down still further, most likely Emmelina monodactyla
(Link deleted in deference to bees of a sensitive disposition)
The air has felt ‘wrong’ all day,& the swallows were swooping so low that we knew that summat was on the way
I was at the other end of the campsite yesterday evening,collecting for our lovely Handyman/Jack of All Trades, who has retired
In 2 hours I collected 160 Euros & had 3 glasses of Sekt …
My feet have been pretty rubbish today though

That picture is flattering: ‘hey, see me! I’m giant and intergalactic!’
More 'X files’than ‘T-flies’
That moth is horribly hairy looking and I want it to go away. {{{Shudder}}}

Thanks, Joe!
Apologies to Soo. I’ll edit my post and put it behind a pop-up-y thing.
