"…alright! Oi promise!" (sez Wywyum)

…(…but I bet if we take a sneaky peek under the table… …wotsthis? Ambridge’sGameKeeper has his fingers crossed!!! (…oooo, errrrr!))

No. Unlike his brother, William tends to honesty, and has some respect for his mother.

…but doesn’t the name “Grundgie” neutralize that at all levels?

Shows how far he’s climbed, really.

Though seeing Eddie’s level of success as a rogue would put anyone vaguely intelligent off the lifestyle.

One increasingly wonders why, mind…

Recessive gene?

Better bloke than any of the rest of the Grundys.

Wit the possible exception of George, who hasn’t yet done anything too frightful.

Though was suspiciously flush at the time of the time the curtain money went missing. (Another red herring / dropped Post-It)

Yes, since we know perfectly well that money was nicked by Alf, who went missing at the same time and had already been taking cash from Clarrie’s purse.

The trouble is we don’t know anything of the sort, because the SL was simply dropped. There was never any explanation for where George got the money; Ed accused Will of giving him too much pocket money, but Will denied it, thereby fuelling speculation. It was never mentioned again.

Ditto the Ambridge arsonist.

I don’t think Will did deny it.

And frankly,if I had been accused of stealing from the church, as Alf was by Eddie, and I hadn’t done it, I think I might make myself fairly clear on the subject.

It was all very odd, though. Why was Eddie expected to make good the loss? Why not simply report the theft?

Bunter seems to have it in for the Grundys. Remember how he dropped Eddie in it over the “promises auction” by holding him to Vicky’s claim that “installing” a water feature included providing it for free? This at a time when they were struggling (more than usual) because Clarrie was out of work.

Eddie was not expected to. He decided unilaterally that it was his brother so he had to. It certainly wasn’t Franks’ decision.

Faoir enough; “expected” was the wrong word. I don’t recall too much effort to persuade him otherwise, though.

While I think of it, is St. Stephen’s not insured against theft? There are companies specialising in church insurance. You’d think a former accountant would have some idea about such matters.

New, improved, labour-saving Grundy model: it oppresses itself. Thus increasing the leisure time and well-being of yer pluted bloatocrats*, innit.

*that did once accidentally happen from my mouth. An improvement on the original, I feel
