I have asked someone in the know; he should have been - if he was warned - although, apparently, it is entirely possible that the person who was supposed to inform him forgot to, and this has been known to happen…

I am told that often the CPS simply fails to tell them about the court date, or gives them the wrong reference so that they aren’t prepared. Of course that’s for real policemen who have more than one thing to do.
