Clarrie's name?

Someone just asked on FB about Clarrie’s full name. ISTR this was mentioned on air not so long ago—Clarrie bemoaning being lumbered with her name to flatter some aged relative (presumably in hope of an inheritance). Can anyone remember this—and more to he point, whether it was Clarice or (as I think) Clarissa?

Given the context, it must have been discussing choosing names, so possibly around the time either Poppy or Rosie was born?

Not sure, but I think it’s Clarice.

She said helpfully.

Have the lambs stopped screaming yet?

Well, one of us is probably right. Possibly both, the way continuity’s gone.

With the current actor, it would be impossible to tell anyway

Dunno, but I certainly haven’t.

That Fish says that Clarrie had an aunt, Clarice Larkin, they think.

Aha! Will check (if it’s in TBOTA)

It is! Not in her own right, but:

LARKIN, MABEL (NÉE BRACKEN)

d. July 1983

Mabel was Ned Larkin’s wife. They had five children, who all married, and she had an elder sister called Clarice who lived in Hollerton with her husband Fred.

Well done That Fish! A pint will be forthcoming…

…an Aunt? …could that have been the aunt who up and died twice?

Wasn’t that a Hilda?

…indeed! Prompting comments of “…mmmmm, I can smell the cowshit from here!” from the inmates when she visited the local asylum (…the one off the by-pass)

Indeed. And a Grundy to boot, so wrong branch of the family tree.

Mind you, these rural communities…

Great Aunt Hilda (dec.) (dec.) wasn’t alone. I think it was Mrs Blossom of whom Alan Coren remarked that the next time she was buried it should be at a crossroads with a stake through her heart.
