Who had the bright idea of having dialogue over a loud background of Snell yelling and Ruby barking. (Actually, they were both barking, but I digress…). And what the hell was Lavinia’s act that so embarrassed Alistair? Someone should tell them that sight gags really don’t work on radio.
It was all filler for the Cliff Hanger about Pip and the baby.
As to the Lavinia thing - not a clue, thankfully
Ah - I’ve just seen who this week’s SW is. Much is explained.
It was the scene from ‘Dirty Dancing’ , & I think that the dog did the flying leap
I cannot now unthink that…
Brane Bleach or Vodka?
…which leaves me none the wiser. And how the feck were we supposed to work that out?
I obviously have the ‘wrong sort of mind’, Joe…
I found the whole episode excruciating, & was daft enuff to listen to it twice …
I blame the heat…
I presume there was some sort of clue in the script? But not having seen the film, I clearly missed it.
The film is ‘Dirty Dancing’ (1987) starring Patrick Swayze & Jennifer Grey
It became a runaway success, & in the last ‘big’ scene, Grey & Swayze enter a dance competition. They dance to what became a Grammy Award -winning song called "(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life . Alaister told Neil that he most definitely did not have the time of his life with Lavinia .
Jennifer Grey takes a flying leap from the stage to be caught by Swayze, & they continue dancing. It’s actually very impressive
Fast- forward to ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ 2012, & the Gymnast Louis Smith & his Professional dancer, Flavia recreated the scene for their Salsa
In another nod to ‘Strictly’ one of the Professional men is Anton Du Beke , which the SW changed to Anton Du Bark…
I think it’s time for my rest now…
Thanks. I have to say I feel no shame whatsoever at being totally ignorant of any of that background.
Well, that makes a lot more sense; in my listening I had the woman doing the leap and couldn’t work out whether the dog was supposed to catch her, or Alastair.
