You will now find that you are all staff, which I did with my Admin hat on. This means that Marjorie’s thread about inviting people to the board can be (and has been) moved to “staff”, a conversation going on without being open to the entire board. I needed to do that to see whether it worked, so if you mind, I apologise.
I suggest we all experiment with what we can do; the first thing I might suggest is actually open to anyone whether they are staff or not, and consists of clicking on the in-my-case-F, going into “settings” by clicking on the cog-wheel that appears, and getting rid of the bit giving “real name”. At the moment that is ok because we all already have these things, but later I expect some at least of us would rather be anonymous or use a pseudonym.
Thank you - settings changed. Later I shall set to work to combat my severe avatar envy wot Marjorie has caused (although viewing it on my tablet this morning through bleary eyes, I did think she was presenting herself in her aspect as a penguin).
Just so that you know, Marjorie, you can delete your own posts and it won’t cause a kaboom. Click on the three dots by “Reply”, and then on the dustbin.
Aha, just experimenting with quoting a post. Good morning all from this side of the pond! Do we have a policy on smilies? My suggestion would be that we trust our members not to overuse them!
It’s fairly intuitive, they’re all in a row on top of the box when you are replying. Quote, bold italics etc. Ooh, you can put a line in, too.
I see you can upload images. Won’t do it yet, but does anyone know the image is reduced to an appropriate size in the uploading? Do we have a policy on size like in Peet’s, no more than 600 px on either of the dimensions?
Just noticed you can reply to the topic or reply to a post. I expect you all saw that already. The blue arrow replies to the post. Saves saying ‘tagging on’ (which I never do anyway).
If you can see that it is too big to fit the preview box, then I expect it will do funny things to the board?
Feral Techie is out for the day, so I think the only way to do things is to try them and see. If they work, put 'em into a staff thread? If they don’t, warn people that they don’t. (There could be a thread in “What Went Wrong?” for that.)
Reply to the topic? How does that work? (experiments) I see.
Anything inside > arrow brackets vanishes, which is why “experiments” above is not.
And I now discover that replies must be at least twenty characters long, which is interesting: it eliminates a lot of people’s succinct “no” in reply to a silly question, which is a shame.
