I do wish TBTB wouldn’t confuse tribute to the actors with tribute to the characters - for that is what I feel sure they must be doing when long serving actors die. We never had such a fuss when Nic died, did we? But then, the actor wasn’t dead and hadn’t been in the cast for decades.

It’s the same in other areas of media life (& death).
When a current or recent newscaster or similar dies the overwhelming amount of media coverage goes way past respect & into mawkish. It seems the powers that be are unable to draw lines and overuse their access to their own facilities.
No disrespect to the deceased or their friends & family but it needs a balance they seem incapable of.
