The new fishpond has port-holes on the world, and when I went outside just now to feed the fish, it was swimming in a slow and stately way past the port-hole – backwards.

I went out to feed the fish. It was looking at its reflection in the porthole, while moving reflectively sideways, head and tail remaining in the same orientation relative to the side of the tank.
I think it is trying to worry me. Swimming backwards, according to the internet, may be a sign of a defective swim-bladder; so may swimming sideways. What to do about this is not clear, though giving it less food seems to be the first thing to consider. So I shall do that and see what happens. If it produces a small bowl to hold out at me I shall know I am on the right track.
