So, who wants to help ... to cavort in the cellar?

:pirate_flag: Avast, ye scurvy Bank of America dogs, prepare to be boarded! :pirate_flag:

That reminds me. I was dog-sitting for friends recently, and on the Saturday the pub over the road was having a Pirate Night featuring, inter alia, sea shanties. Fancying a bit of that, and possibly a little grog as well, I equipped myself with wallet and smokes as well as the usual phone, key and poo bags and we set off. It was a lovely walk judging by the waggage.

Anyway, when we were half-way down the Very Intrestin’ Field, the bottom of which is next to the pub car park, they started up with a shanty. Dog stopped running ahead and started walking behind. Very close behind. He evinced a preference to go over the stile out onto the road rather than use the gap in the hedge to the carpark that is his normal route, but I persuaded him otherwise.
Then they started up with another shanty, and go through the gate into the pub garden he absolutely would not. And I couldn’t be that woman so desperate for a beer that she dragged a terrified spaniel bodily into the pub, so it was over the road to the house and the special emergency back-up cider.

Gun-shy I know about, but a shanty-shy spaniel’s a new one on me.

(The poor chap experienced ill-usage in his previous life, and loud strange male voices were clearly too much for him.)

There is a lot of growly singing associated with shanties. Poor Dog to be so terrified, but he had a caring Gus to keep him happy.

Wherever that is, it’s clearly an unlovely area.

I can barely walk today (and have to). And why am I hobbling?

Because I dropped a full-ish bottle of conditioner directly onto my big toe, thass why. Cannot recommend this course of action.

I am in the opposite state from Gus. I got back from Stoke Mandeville an hour ago after a procedure to burst the cyst inside my spine between L5 andL4 that has been pressing on my sciatic nerve since 1st August 2023; hobbled in, walked out down the long corridor to the main entrance, and so far touch wood am not hurting.

All you need is someone in beard, robes and sandals saying “take up your Minnow End and walk”…

That is the most wonderful news, quite made my day. Hopefully, you’ll get a good night’s sleep now.

And with luck it will last. After all, the cyst is gone! But I was warned there may still be a bit of bruising and there may be a week or so when things suddenly nag; they just ought not to endure.

I am thrilled by this news! Happy recovery, Fishers.

Yippee!

I look forward to the spectacle of An Fish doing the Highland Fling.

Seriously, that is excellent news. Take it easy for a few days, maybe?

Not to drive for twelve hours, not to have a bath for three days but a shower is OK, not to use kitchen appliances for 24 hours – which leaves me asking mildly whether the microwave is an appliance? the bread machine? the wupeen? and the washing-up machine is in the kitchen… Is the electric tin-opener an appliance as well as a game-changer when opening tins of tomatoes for stew? I mean, I don’t really need to know because I made the stew yesterday in case I didn’t feel like cooking today, but is it an appliance within the meaning of their leaflet?

I suspect what they really mean is “don’t use the kettle, you might drop it and/or scald yourself”. Ditto, perhaps, the slow-cooker.
