So, who wants to help ... to cower in the cellar?

It’s local election time here; they’re on guard duty.

Very stylish draught excluders you have there, joe. Salutations to The Hens. I like the idea of refuelling on the wing and am more specifically designed for this than, erm, Birds. Apart from Hummingbirds, who are just freaky.

That Watch, Hedgers, azz stylish azzitizz, would dwarf me in the way that Twellsy’s 'normous glass dwarfs her. Itizz, on reflection, no bluddy wonder that The Hound has turned her back against us. She’ll come round, eventually and in her own time.

We had hummingbirds in our garden in Barbados. Shifty beggars never stood still enough to get a photo.

So have this instead …

Apparently you need to be around a bit longer. I’m working with an artist at the moment who was based in Mexico for about ten years. She was just telling me that she had a feeder for hummingbirds on her balcony. Apparently if it was empty they used fly up against to the window and buzz complainingly.

Unless the widow was open, in which case they would complain face to face.

A question for the cellar: if a woman divorces a man who then dies, is she a widow?

Don’t think so, no.

Ex-wife makes sense. Possibly Lazarus’s missus might be classed as an ex-widow, but not a lot of that about…

In a legal sense, there can be some minor complications if one party dies while a divorce is partially completed, but generally speaking the answer would be “no”. (Though a will is not automatically invalidated by divorce, the way it is by marriage, so while a “widow’s pension” from a third party would not be paid, there might still be unintended inheritance.)

In my view, divorce is the legal dissolution of a marriage by a court or other competent body.
That is, the union is no longer valid. Hence, widowhood is not an option, azzitwere.

However, I would like to know the reason behind the query.

A book. I thought the same but thought I would see if I was just nit-picking.

Gone to bed.
