One thing we can be thankful for is that it is at this time of year; when there are winds like this and the trees have leaves on them, they are even more likely to be blown over. There was one summer night when we lost what felt like about one in five trees on the Downs, in Bristol, and there were green leaves in drifts all over the roads in the morning, and the corpses of trees over all the paths. It made that morning’s dogwalk interesting.
A hopeful thought, thank you for that.
I use KnitPro Nova Metal Interchangeable Needle Tips, and must get some more size 3 and size 3.5 because I have lost one of each and I like to have a spare set.
The zip on the case the first set came in has broken, and they escape. Is there anywhere to get replacement cases for such sets? I haven’t found one that takes more than eight pairs and I need sixteen, and so far making my own has simply not happened.
eeek
Aren’t they great needles TFM?
I like the way the bright colours help me see the needles plastic grey ones get lost for my eyesight so I lose stitches and end up chasingg them with a crochet hook as B taught me
I am off to crafty group this afternoon so I will be showing my lovely cased sets of needles off to my rehab assistant
She taught me how to knit so she will be happy to see her efforts bear fruit
The colours are great - until you knit a yarn exactly the same colour as the needles, then… less so.
That could pose problems
I am looking at the 2.5mm needles ans wondering what they could be used for
I shudder to think how long I would be making anything with them!
Gulp at that weather picture
Eunice looks like being rather excitable
Really, or is that a typo?
Very thin jumpers, I expect. I’m embarking shortly on a spring/autumn jumper using 3mm for the ribbing and 3.5 mm for the body, and for that I shall be knitting 486 stitches per round on the body. (I must be mad, especially since the wool is black.)
Still, the present shawl is now on a round which is 672 stitches, and I am adding eight stitches every two rounds, so the jumper won’t be as bad as all that…
Really Gus
It has ideal growing conditions - sub tropical climate (thank you North Atlantic drift) 100+inches of rain per annum acid boggy peaty soil and a shelter belt letting it get really established before putting a leaf towards the prevailing winds
As a happy tree it grows - fast!
Our wilderness is in a temperate rain forest climate so we have trees that grow faster than weeds I think
Hydrageas grow to a 6-8’ height and spread according to the RHS
Umm some of ours need ladders to try to prune them back to sensible sizes
Picture me with a machete and axe as I try to get to well number one…
That way madness lies for me dear fishy
Aran is about my limit where yarn is concerned
If I start to gibber more than usual you will know why, won’t you!
There there dear.
[dodges sideways to evade the Fishly Lunge]
I will proffer a nice chalk bed stream and a blanket of watercress for you dear fishy
And keep the sparrer out of your way
Re replacement cases, I have no idea what they look like, Fishy.
Depending on what is broken about the zip, it might be repairable, or a Noo zip put in.

Alas no; it’s made of plastic, and resewing wouldn’t be possible I don’t think. Cheap and nasty. The whole zip has died from one end to the other, and experience tells me that once a cheap-and-nasty zip has done that, it is going to do it again and again if you do manage to get the teeth to grip for a bit.
Sooner or later I shall bite the bullet and make a “roll” style case which will hold 24 pairs of needles all 4.5" long and of varying gauges from 3mm to 8mm (with spaces at the ends for a pair each of 2.5mm and 9mm just in case), with a top that folds over them to keep them in place and a tie to hold it all together when it is rolled up. I have the cloth, lots of it and in lovely bright colours or Liberty or William Morris prints; it just ain’t going to happen this week!
Something a bit like this, probably: Interchangeable Needle Case Holds 3mm-10mm Interchangeable | Etsy UK
but made for what I need rather than what they think I ought to need.
I see what you mean, Fishy. In that case, custom made is always better, because you can build in/add on the bits you need.
Before the introduction of the Euro, we had a problem with what to do with the coins of various currencies as we were driving across Europe to get to Austria. I made a flat holder out of canvas, & sewed lines to make several pockets, each with a flap closing with velcro. At each border, pockets would be emptied into a section, & the correct currency taken out, & used until the next one.
We never had very much Belgian money on the way out, but I insisted that there were funds in each pocket to stop for a pee at the motorway services during the night!
This ‘wallet’ was Mr C’s pride & joy, prolly 'cos I used Velcro to fasten it.
He loved Velcro, & would have used it on everything. His brother had a penchant fer Superglue.
Strange Bluddy Fambly I married into!

Velcro! I knew there was something I was missing in my tentative design!
