So, who wants to help ... to frivol in the cellar? (Part 2)

I had never seen it before and I will be getting it again

Real bits of green herbs aplenty and the flavour is better than my own so I love Mutti martyrs and sauces

Mutti Martyrs are delicious, but not easy to find round here.

Grandma always used to buy Cirio Martyrs.

Round here, Mutti Martyrs are available from Tesco and Morrisons, as are their pizza sauce. I keep them as ā€˜store-cupboard-essentialsā€™, hark at madam. Also Rummo ridged conchiglie, Aduki beansā€¦so much stuff. I do wish that Iā€™d stocked up, in such a neurotic fashion, with olive oil.

Iā€™ll try the Bigger Tesco in town, Soo

I havenā€™t been to the Feckinā€™Normous&SoulDestroyingTesco for almost 4 years now.

Have just been reading an thread about oils on MumsNet. I used to buy the best olive oil that Aldi/Lidl had, & keep a couple of bottles in stock, but they are, sadly, used up now.

The price is frightening.

I also used to buy cold-pressed Rapeseed Oil from The Refill Fairy which is produced in the next county.

Must get some more.

Marigold stock powder izzan store-cupboard staple here.

Aldi cold pressed rapeseed oil is the usual oil here

And their cooking olive oil is all right too

Butter is used in a lot of baking

A good natural product

Unlike a lady I was talking to a couple of weeks ago

Margarine for health in a butter shortbread!

A known carcinogen in place of a small amount of a good natural product

All those trans fatty acidsā€¦

I donā€™t bake, but I still use butter.

Margarined carrots really arenā€™t as nice as buttered carrots, are they.

And the larded carrot is probably an Aberration.

Lard is useful in sausage making

Helps get the 80-20 pig lard ratio

It makes for a juicy moist sausage

And stretches the pork

I do use lard, but never wiv carrotsā€¦

If itā€™s good shortbread, the amount of butter is not ā€˜smallā€™. Just sayinā€™.

Want to make a lardy cake, dammit

I detest lard, but I would give my life to make it possible for you to continue to use it.
Not really - just felt like popping up to state that,

Gus I would use shortbread in a varied diet

And yes is should be butter heavy

Lard & dripping were part of my childhood.

Margarine was a block, & mixed half & half with lard.

Butter was only used for special baking, like shortbread, or Viennoiserie.

Late SiL made fabulous pastry, & only ever used lard.

Different times.

Morning all

Wet and cool here

Just the day to go to water colouring class

I am the star pupil - blind and with a severe tremor makes for a perfect picture you know!

Still I have fun with other ladies and we are kept out of trouble for a couple of hours

B met the Bull on the road yesterday and apparently she is sending her J round for lessons in romantic behaviour from the Bull

She would like the odd bunch of flowers and anything nice under her pillow on their anniversary

The rally crowd just want the Bull to stop making the rest of them look bad!
