Ha! Why I didn’t think of that one I don’t know, but I didn’t.
What’s wrong with using a chopstick to persuade the toast to come out if it’s being stubborn? A wooden one, obviously, because a plastic one would melt.
I have bamboo toaster tongs. They are really useful & have a little magnet on one side so I keep them on the side of the microwave, which is next to the toaster.
Mine were from Lakeland, years ago, but they are now widely available.
Yesterday I had bacon, eggs & tomatoes. I also had 2 elderly crumpets wot needed to be used.
I toasted the crumpets (twice, as usual), buttered them, & put the eggs on top.
They were crispy & delicious, not ‘flabby’ & horrible.
I must remember to do that again!

Autumn leaves dancing in the breeze
It’s far too blurry hot for me. It has been an Embra day - visiting family and shopping for sofas - plus we had a locksmith change locks for us when we returned. All done, so now I’m relaxing with a flat white (of the cool variety). Can’t face cooking, so it’ll be fruit salad and yoghurt with a side of pistachios for me.

And for me. Our day has been deadly boring, attempting to sort out the last of the stuff TFD inherited from the AB. We’re almost there, just down the the biggest problem of the lot, which is a box of jewellery that belonged to TFD’s mother. We have no interest in keeping any of it but have no idea how to go about disposing of it - some of it is potentially fairly valuable and we don’t want to be ripped off.
Jewellery is always a problem in these circumstances, TFM. After each of our Mothers died, we took the bits and pieces that were clearly of little monetary worth to a charity shop and the rest we had valued/sold and had the proceeds added to the Estates.

May I ask how you sold it, Soo? We’re debating selling to a jeweller vs auction, veering towards the latter since we feel exhausted at the thought of traipsing round several jewellers to ensure a decent price.
We sold the jewellery to a jeweller we vaguely knew, TFM. None of it would have warranted an auction and I couldn’t have coped with the faff, frankly.

Humph
I have just written an fulsome reply to TFM & lorst it.
Sigh
Anyhoo, I think that sending them to auction is a better idea, unless you know a good jeweller. You would probably have to pay for a valuation at a jeweller.
An auction house would take the pieces, do the research & present them properly for sale. You would have the benefit of buyers on the Internetty too
Gold, Silver & Platinum prices change every day. If your stuff is not deemed saleable then it can be broken up & sold for scrap weight, which is also priced every day.
Gold Sovereigns or other gold or silver coins may not be tampered with in any way, & there are special mounts used to make them into pendants, brooches or bracelets.
If there are any of these, then don’t piggle with them. The coin & mount will be valued separately.
Keep stuff in the original cases where possible.

Advice from Gus: don’t waste the Good Gin on cleaning them for sale/ auction. Tesco rubbing gin will do [grinnity].

Thank you so much, Carinthia, that’s very helpful.
Sadly we don’t know any jewellers at all so have no idea who to trust. We do have a valuation certificate for a lot of the stuff, but that was from a jeweller in Scotland and was done over 40 years ago! Still, it’s enough to give us an idea that some of it is worth making an effort with.
As if!
Unless they are disgustingly filthy, I wouldn’t clean them at all.
Let the specialists deal with them.
Never ever attempt to clean pearls or anything set with pearls.

Particularly, don’t chuck yer pearls down the plughole.
