So, who wants to help ... to frivol in the cellar? (Part 2)

I’ve met waterproof zips on drysuits, but oh boy that’s a lot of fiddly overlapping fabric.

My fingers wouldn’t be able to deal with that on a regular basis these days.

As for dry suits

Can you guess what happened to the posh eejit who sat on the gunwhales of the dive boat with his dry suit open boasting how lovely and warm and dry he was to a boatload of frozen wet divers?

No he was not given praise for saving up to buy himself a drysuit

It’s amazingly difficult to haul in a drysuit that is full of not so smug git and seawater

Nice cold cold seawater

Nor would we have laughed at his being so smug he didn’t bring a towel contrary to Mr Adams’ advice in his book that advises one not to panic

Hey, things could always be worse! My paraplegic mother-in-law once set out to drive from London to Bristol and left her phone (this was in the early days of mobiles, and we’d made her get one for any emergency when she was driving) on her kitchen table. This of course was the occasion when she was side-swiped by a lorry, went down an embankment and ended up with her car upside-down in a field full of inquisitive cattle. Luckily the driver of a lorry that was following saw what happened and stopped to call for assistance, then managed to get her and her wheelchair out of the car. She was only four hours late reaching us…

She was one who never did anything by halves. Before she fell out of the window and broke her back, she had been planning to climb Everest the following summer. Afterwards that was clearly no longer practical; so she took up tall ship sailing instead.
