I should perhaps explain that they were showing The Optimists - a Russian-produced Cold War drama with English subtitles.
Apart, that is, from a few scenes where English was spoken. For which the Russian translation was provided in a voiceover.
Which was then subtitled in English…

Tonight, there will be chicken baked with soy sauce, honey and garlic, wiv stirfried broccoli, carrot & mushroom. Also chicken just baked with no nonsense, for the Hairy Fool. The said HF discovered last night that cold cauliflower cheese leftovers are a major delicacy. I feel much the same, so a certain amount of Tension ensued…

I had stuff to use up, so we have eaten butterbean and fennel stew with roast Savoy cabbage with a walnut, garlic and lemon dressing. One ovvus had a naan bread.

The roads are lethal with a slight thaw by day and a hard freeze by night
We were thinking of putting ice skates on the car to go the less scary way down the hill we are at the top of
The shorter way has a steep descent and a spring that runs all the time ensuring a surface Torvill and Dean would love in this weather
