So, who wants to help... to perpetuate the cellar?

That’s a quacktet, isn’t it, when not a terrine

We had 2 skeines of geese fly over, heading North, on Saturday. Always a good sign.

Round here the ducks fly on small local patrols, keeping the river in sight.

Have you met them?

If they lose sight of the river they’ll get lost, and have to go searching for a new one.

On the other hand, offer a drake a fiver to chuck a brick through a window, and by the time he’s done it he’ll have forgotten you promised to pay him.

Since people want to know: during the course of yesterday I sucked my finger a lot to keep it open, and nibbled away the dead skin round the edges because it had gone soft and was likely to catch on things if I left it where it was, with the result that last night what I had was a crater with good honest red at the bottom of it, still about the same size as ever. It went on not hurting. That Bird called me autophagous.

This morning it is back to being a hard parchment-coloured lump, same size as before, with a slight dip in the middle which is red but not raw. It still doesn’t hurt – unless I accidentally poke it with a knitting-needle, at which point it objects.

More I cannot tell you; and for the record,Twellies, it has not at any time been weeping. It only extruded nearly-solid green matter under pressure, and even then it didn’t hurt particularly. The whole business is unlike any other wound I have ever had.

Well, you called That Bird a feathered famulus.

I’d give it another squeeze next time you have soaked it well in the bath to see what happens. Or soak it in hot-as-you can bear water with TCP and ditto.

If I go on bovvering it about it will never get better, I feel.

Thanks for the update, Fishers. I agree - maybe less interference and more observation could be the way to go.

Decent enough walk and plenty of chats along the way. Northumbria Police are obviously not concerned about our groupings of 2 to five, or so. The cauliflower has been roasted and is now burbling away in veg. stock with fried red onion and garlic. I’d be unlikely to run out of recipes to make, but the freezers are maxed out and we’ll have no visitors for ages < that’s the worst thing.

Well done with the Wabbit, Twellsy.

Is the Fish Quay still open, Soo?

Yes, Carinthia - according to their website. We stocked up, last week but didn’t buy industrial quantities azz I don’t like to keep frozen fish for more than a very few weeks.
(Not that I buy frozen fish -apart from king prawns - in the first place.)

We used to have 3 wet fish stalls in the Market Hall, but they disappeared when it was closed for renovation. There was 1 which traded last year, in the renovated building, but it couldn’t sell enough.

Morrisons is the only place with a wet fish counter now

Sigh

I’d like to affirm that Hell would freeze over before we, the bees, couldn’t buy fresh fish locally. But, who knows? This is such a part of my life that I can’t imagine it gone. And - the Fishwives! Gawds.

The cauli soup is rather good, by our tastes.
