Ooh, just so you know, last night we were the coldest capital in the world. On average itās Ulan Bator. We are normally the second coldest.

Has gone from being very cold (by purely local standards) here to quite mild but with torrential rain. Pretty much pitch dark at 9am, so thick was the cloud cover.

We once stopped for a cuppa on a sand-road in the middle of nowhere without any vegetation to speak of, at a cafƩ in north Finland which claimed to have recorded the coldest temperature anywhere with a permanent dwelling in the world, colder, said the proprietor, even than Russia; but it was in summer, so we had no means of testing her assertion.

They did say there had been heavy snow the previous week. But the sand was so fine and dry that it coated the back windscreen, and then fell off as soon as we opened the door to get out and clean it.

Aaaaand flumph! Wivva pitcher of something restorative. We are back from the vet, which is always a slightly fraught undertaking, judging when to embasket the cat so she is ready for the taxi but not cooped up getting cross for too long, then wondering if taxi will arrive on time. Fun was added today by Mrs B. staging a vanishing act 15 mins before the scheduled off. Teach me not to shut the spare room wardrobe properly, that will.
Anyway, her heart is no worse, and her jabs are now up to date and her vocal chords have had a good workout shouting at the poor cab driver. My BP may even be returning to normal too.

I am making ā well, have made, am cooking ā a cake. It is the first major work with The Beast. Grind up the oranges: 20 secs. Add the other ingredients: 1 min 30 secs allowing for weighing the sugar, weighing the ground almonds, measuring the baking soda and breaking in six eggs. It will take longer to wash than to use! (And the mixture tastes very deliciousā¦)
https://www.nigella.com/recipes/clementine-cake was the easiest recipe for what Hedgers described as āA marmalade cake with almonds on itā eaten in a tea-room somewhere or other recently. Possibly the British Museum. Letās see whether this turns out any good, at 10:35pm plus overnight āsettlingā.

Ah, now that is a very good cake, that one - but how can it taste delicious to you when it contains almondses? I thought you and they did not get on. Or am I confused? Wouldnāt be the first timeā¦
