So, who wants to help ... to take refuge in the Cellar?

Gus, I am hoping that I may be safe to have sampled the very small amount of almond that there will have been involved in a fingertipful off the mixer blade while I was getting the mixture into the tin.

I very much hope so too, o Fish. I had thought the dislike was reciprocal, as it were. But it’s just them being the aggressors. That is such a pity.

It is better than the “orange and almond” cake I had at the Geffrye Museum on Wednesday.

(British Museum tomorrow.)

Except that it came apart comprehensively as it left the tin and had to be eaten as a pudding, with cream…

Next time I will know I need to add more butter to the tin, and possibly grease-proof paper as well.

I am going to bed anyhow; I am not making another at this point.

(Added note: if it works next time, this is a cake my lactose-and-gluten intolerant brother will be able to eat, as long as I use gluten-free baking-powder or none at all, as the recipe suggests.)

Too late to be useful this time but yes, that one needs the tin well greased and lined with parchment and the tin needs to be springform, and you need to leave it to cool in the tin a fair bit
And I bet it was bluddy delicious as a pudding with cream.

PS: Soo, the same tin & cooling advice applies to the rosewater and cardamom brute, as and when. Signed, The Belt & Braces Bakery

And Patchfaced Oaf’s people are home, so I can stop worrying about him. Won’t stop him coming round putting on the poor mouth, mind…
And I don’t have to leap out of bed and into outdoor clothes first thing. Breakfast for Mrs B. Cat can be organised from within a nightshirt. Yay!

Why do folk feed foxes?

They are wild viscous killing machines not cute little doggies

Grrr

Nah, this is a viscous killing machine:

I shall be more careful next time.

Now, here is a question: if I were to replace the clementines with raspberries, d’you suppose it would still work?

Probably Fishy

I am spending today hand raising a chicken and ham pie for friends coming to dinner on Monday

I am doing a buffet of hand raised pie with charcuterie platter cheeseboard salads me made bread and profiteroles

Yon bull is worried that an 8" diameter pie 4" deep is not enuff for 4

He is a bottomless pit I tells ya!

Don’t be silly, Fishy

Raspberries go in Vodka

Simples

Yesterday, Elseboard, I read that foxes had killed most of the chickens belonging to a poster

As she said, if it were a vixen taking the lot to feed her cubs, it would be slightly more understandable, but it was a dog fox, merely ripping the heads off & leaving the wretched birds

Raspberries are a bit ‘wetter’ than clems, so my instinct is that it might veer towards the puddingy in texture. On the other hand, faint heart never won F&P. I think what I would do is make the batter sans fruit and mix in whole raspberries just before entinning.

I am a little fed up with Sudden Daughter.

I had to get up at 9:30 this morning to get Hedgers to the station for the British Museum visit; fine. Set the alarm and went to bed.

Got to sleep at about 3am.

At 8:41 was woken by my phone, a text from Sudden Daughter asking if it would be ok to turn up 11-12 to see me. Sure, fine, I don’t have to go to the shops in town today, I can come straight back after getting Hedgers into town at 10:15.

At 12:02 a text: sorry running late…

Grrrrrr, on the whole. She could have let me know her plans yesterday and not woken me, and she could have been less optimistic about traffic in towards London on the M4 so that I had time to go into Boots and Currys and Lidl on the way home!

I fear that I may yawn at her.

Pore sleep and messages-deprived Fishy.
But she is Sudden. Letting you know yesterday wouldn’t have been Sudden enough.

At least she wasn’t expecting Brandy Butter Cheesecake this year, Fishy…

Pore Fishers. I can empathise, as I have noticed a touch of inconsiderate behaviour from my younguns (some of them). They were ill, it’s true, and now, so am I. Bleugh.
