Why not a caution for Freddie?

First offence. Not particularly serious. A caution would let the local cops tick off another crime solved, without all the hard work and expense of a trial. For dramatic purposes it still ruins Freddie’s life (it’s still an admission of guilt and a criminal record). And dodgy cautions are a real contemporary topic (particularly police not mentioning the criminal record bit). So why not?

Fallon was given a caution by PC Burns on a “drunk and disorderly” charge, so she has a criminal record – but she kept her licence to sell alcohol to the public.

Hmmmm.
