For the bread makers among us…

They are immense…

And not bad at all.

Less sweet than standard uK commercial product. Plumping the raisins in orange juice in the absence of zest was my own idea; it makes the raisins a little tart, which is not unpleasant, but next time I would do that bit the conventional way.
They could be a bit crisper. Three thoughts on this:

adjust the lower oven temp to 200C, not 190C
cut them thinner - my yield was 10 and the recipe suggests 12 -15
bake in two batches so they are less crowded

All in all, though, I’m pleased with the results.

I would not want to make these on a warm day.

I think they look fabulous

Would the receipt work in a range?

If so can you share?

I don’t know - possibly not, as they go in at 240C and the oven is then turned down to 190C.

The recipe is here. I did another version of crème pâtissière, though (Paul Hollywood).

Thank you Gus

The range gives a very steady heat and whacking the door open cools it quick enough

Pride goeth before a fall and all that. Thought I would make a small white loaf. This monstrosity is the result. It tastes okay, but is weirdly reminiscent of crumpets.

It has 4 possible crusts

Happy Sigh

It’s certainly very ‘open’

Strongly agree.

Sorry, Sparrer. I shouldn’t have mentioned it.

I’d like toasted crumpets or that bread à la Twellsy for brekkers, please.
