Knittery and Stitchery and Stuff

That’s why I wanted a transfer to do my own thing with stitches and beads and squeakwins added to my design

I have two magnifying glasses on my side table and my craft light with magnifying glass screwed to the wall just right for me to use

What vision I have is not bad - I only have half an eye but it sees all right and I make best use of it

I also have a glass that hangs round my neck

And if it takes forever who cares

I am not doing much else…

Nips in before she notices, to say that I think it could be rather effective wiv buttons too

I’m obviously having a ‘Blue Peter’ sticky-backed plastic moment here

Don’t worry, it won’t last…

I can find loads of stick on paint by numbers efforts but I want to embroider and play with shiny things

Well you can start by collecting your materials, which will be lovely in itself. I once kept a 7 year old girl entertained for a couple of hours sorting a big packet of mixed Squeakwins.

We had a sort of maths lesson without realising it, & nipped through the colours too.

Are you going to use Aida for the background, or is that too white?

I am going to use whatever is suitable as I have only done kit types till now and I want to try a bit harder and do a challenge

So I thought of linen for the back

Have you a suitable frame to work on? I presume you already have a needle threader. If not, get one: it will save you using up all the good sweariewords.

Why would I need a frame?
I would be buying a new larger embroidery hoop

Whichever.

I have always used an hoop for embroidery

Grandma taught me that much

I forsee an enjoyable day picking and choosing stuff online

I doubt if the haberdashery shop in the next village up would have all I would need so I will have fun searching for beads and squeakwins

And silk embroidery thread

How big are you planning this, Twellsy? I must say that I had thought of enlarging the pattern anyway, but thought of it being onna frame that you could sit at.

I don’t embroider, but I’d need a hoop like a Feckin’ cartwheel, I’m sure! :joy:.

Elbeesee posilock floor-standing set-ups are the kind of thing. As wor Chatelaine says, you can sit at them.

I have no idea of suitable brands, Gus, but yes , that was the sort of thing I was thinking of. I would have thought that it would be easier to get the right light onnit too.

Dismisses utterly, thoughts of an flaming cartwheel

I’m a martyr to these… :wink::joy:

This 'ere Peacock has dredged up memories of another.

30 odd years ago friends of mine were hoping to buy/become Licencees of a pub called The Peacock. Whilst they were waiting for the application to work through the many processes, her sister embroidered a beautiful picture of said bird, all ready to get it framed & hung .

Anyhoo

They weren’t granted the Licence It was given to someone else.

Much Wailing & Gnashing of teeth ensued & the sister embroidered an arrow straight through the peacock’s heart…

Gawds

There never were such times…

I’m sure that it would be much easier for you to use, Twellsy - less tiring, & not so much mauling of fabric either.

I am sure that transfers could be enlarged in some way,or that you could get them, or a design enlarged

This is where it gets abit Techie fer me,but you have access to lots of Technology, & someone who can use it , so choose a design,& see what can be done

The trouble with enlarging pictures is usually pixellation, but in this situation that might actually be useful

I found a place on etsy that does the transfers so I emailed asking about a BIG peacock and await reply probably tomorrow

I think I will enjoy a trip to the craft shop

You’ll need your transfer & background linen first, Twellsy, so that you can work out the proportions. You can be making lists, planning colours, etc.

As you said yesterday, you can take your time with it, & it will, I’m sure, be very satisfying to do.

Keep photos/a video record of your progress, & that could, eventually be Zoomed or wotwvva, to share with your craft class.
