I am using a 28" monitor

It is a real fancy job as my laptop screen is kaput

The Bull gave me one of his so it’s high definition and I find it great

Stop that, joe. Right now.

OK - well neither of mine is anywhere close to 28", and I do need a dual monitor set-up for work (it’s actually laptop + 22" external, so really not that impressive)

On a serious note, do try to get hold of an adjustable stand for the monitor. The ability to set it at a comfortable height is essential, and being able to rotate to portrait view is a definite bonus.

The Bull did use 3

Until my flapdog gave up its screen

He has the 2 biggest!

And one is all that will fit in the inglenook…

Even I have the Ancient Waptop on an adjustable stand, so that I can control the ā€˜angle of dangle’. It’s better for me back & neck

A wall mount might be useful for your situation - the monitor would be adjustable in the same way your light / magnifier is, and can just be pushed out of the way when not needed. I like the Ergotron range - I’ve been using one of their desk stands for years.

The stand is adjustable and the idea of getting holes drilled to screw a mount to the 3 foot thick stone wall is not on

House built of Clare shale which eats stone drill bits for berkkie

There is a reason we put the telly where it is - it’s the only non stone wall in the house

So my monitor sits neatly in the inglenook and my sofa sits close by so I am cosy and my lamp and extra lights are in just by me

The Bull did his best to make my wee corner work just as I need and want it to be

That’s what matters - all other suggestions were merely generalities. Comfort when working is absolutely essential.

That is why the bottom or ā€˜filing’ drawer of a desk pedestal unit will accommodate an upright bottle of spirits or several.

I know

But I worry about folk not knowing the type of hovel we have

Very very old Irish stone houses eat power tools

Even our local builder who covered the half loft for ushad to bring his big tools out to work here

He is a local lad who was brought up in a house like ours

So he knows about local stone

Twellsy, it occurs to me re beads that you need to consider the dimensions of the hole. Some will not be suitable for embroidery crewels and would need beading needles.
Not being negative, just advising.

Twellsy, there is no need to worry at all. You really ought to know that by now.

Take any suggestions made, & apply them to your circumstances. We sometimes talk about freezing dishes, for example, but we all have different sized freezers, if, indeed, we have freezers at all, & may not wish to, or be able to act on suggestions, however well meant…

Dear Chatelaine I know that in my head

It’s in my heart that I need to know that folks care and want the best for me

Can I ask for folk’s expertise here?

11 balls of Stylecraft cotton and bamboo yarn dk/4 ply with 250 metres per ball with the idea of doing a stripey jumper or cardi

Cardi for preference

Any patterns I see are either fair isle or lace type jobbies

Can anyone suggest a pattern?

Any plain pattern that is not lacy or fair isle, and then simply do stripes instead of knitting the one colour. Make a note of which rows you change colour so the sleeves have the same stripes, if that’s what you want.

Gus has a picture of an example I made of the usual sweater but made of all the left-overs from other sweaters, which I am going to ask her to post here. It can be done!
