Poultry report

In an attempt to keep the resolution mentioned elsethread it’s about time I updated this! It’s been a bit hectic. First off, we lost the lovely Honey (last photo above). Seems to have been some sort of genetic problem causing progressive paralysis. All others doing well, I’m happy to say, but we had a major clear-out of roosters - five rehomed, so it’s just Soo and Bran now. It had to be done, as things were getting a bit fraught - Penny and her girls ended up going into hiding, while the roos started to act like every adolescent male on the planet. Once it got to the point of bloodshed, they had to go…

So peace reigns once again and Penny’s crew are in their element (as is Bran!!). Will try and get a few more shots over the next few days, but for now:

Bran has grown into a fine specimen of roosterhood…
Bran the Majestic (comp)

…and is very protective of his girls. Here he’s lending Frippie a sympathetic ear:

Florrie and Simone plotting something (or possibly discussing Simone’s Cruella deVil coiffure?)

But sometimes, a girl just needs her mother:

Glorious photies, joe. Glorious birds. So lovely to get an update on them; I did rather wonder how you were faring with all the boys…

Delighted to see your update, Joe! I have alerted LadySusan who always enjoys them.

A decidedly unwelcome update. RIP Penny. Just age, as far as we can tell (she wasn’t young when we got her) and it was peaceful, but still…

So sad to see the Mama of the flock has gone I will miss her with chicks under her skirts

Still quite a healthy population, hen-wise, though…

…and that’s only the ones that could fit on the windowsill!

Oh Joe, that has made me sad. She was so beautiful.

A bit of happier news for once! As of yesterday Bibi is a mother - making the Roo Named Soo a great-grandfather, since we’re fairly sure Bibi was Sammy-Hannah’s. (Given that family relationships in the poultry world would be considered too complicated for Jerry Springer, it’s hard to be certain, but Bibi and Jeanette definitely have a look of the late and much lamented Millie.)

Photos when they emerge from the bunker! (Literally - she decided the old coal store was a good place to hide while brooding!)

Initial reports suggested four.

A first proper look - though two of them are hiding somewhere (probably behind Bibi!)
