The episode of Shaun the Sheep writes itself, really.
Avril has resigned herself to the fact that her role in life is to be ornamental, and it wouldn’t be fair to make us run around all day to look at her. She’s thoughtful like that.
The Girls hiding them, or just not laying ATM?
Carinthia. xx
To be fair, the girls have had a busy old summer… but bought eggs, how mortifying if the neighbours saw.
My warmest regards and sisterly solidarity to the strikers.
Actually, joe, morally speakin’ you have crossed a picket liken. For shame!
ETA: picket LINE. ‘Liken’ is a Freudian slip of the phone. Off fer a fag to determine whether the sky might be falling this time…
The pressures of motherhood! Pretty well every hen decided to go broody this year, so of course there haven’t been any eggs for most of the summer. There’s likely to be a glut in the next few weeks, though! All doing well, I’m happy to say - though there’ll have to be a purge fairly soon. The Golden Girls (Avril and her sisters) are all, well, sisters, so they’re fine (They’d have been very hard to part with!) but there are a few roos. No major problems at the moment, but once the testosterone kicks in…
Not Soo?
Soo xx
Absolutely not! Soo and Bran are fixtures, and get along fine. The purge is primarily to protect them. Too high a ratio of roos to hens and they’re liable to fight. There’s also a risk of hens getting injured through over-mating.
Phew!

She is lovely
She is!
Grand-daughter1 of the late and much-lamented Violet and seems to have inherited her sweet disposition.
1Fingers crossed! Signs are good so far…
Certainly hope so. Lovely bird, anyhoo.

Well, I wouldn’t consider it the sort of weather to lounge on the patio, but then I don’t have fevvers…
L-R Betsy, Avril and Bibi
Daft birds!
More sad news - the end of an era, really…
RIP Soo. We’d already lost Bibi and Simone a few weeks ago after they succumbed to some nasty virus, but Soo was special - he’d been with us for nearly nine years. A good age for a Sussex, though, and he was pretty well healthy to the end - just a bit of a decline in the last couple of days.
Here he was in his prime, back in 2016:
Sorrow, Joe. A fine bird.
