So, who wants to help ... to flummox the cellar?

Roads closing all over the island, I’m afraid. We don’t do snow all that frequently here but when we do, we do it properly…

Hope it doesn’t get that bad this time.

The gulf stream affects our weather too, and it’s kind of responsible for the snow. Here’s an explanation what I found.

This is what happens when a normally wet island with its temperature moderated by the gulfstream-fed Irish Sea suddenly experiences abnormally cold air. Much like Lake-Effect snow in the midwest and northeastern US, this cold air feeds off the abundance of moisture and forms snow which can last for days if the wind direction is right. The isle of Man also has a bit of topography (rising 1,700 feet out of the sea, or 400m), which lifts the cold moist air forming dense snowclouds. Normally it would be rain, but in such a combination of cold airmass and strong winds being blown and lifted onto land, you can get intense snow events.

In the winter of 1947 Manchester Council lost a double-decker bus for I think it was nine days. It was unable to finish its route, pulled into a narrow street between two rows of warehouses to let everyone get off and get home as best they could, and in the blizzard the driver failed to notice exactly which street he’d sheltered in. So when the snow drifted over and covered it, that was that: it only got discovered after the thaw.

Embra is on the cards, tomorrow…SiL sent me his birthday greeting video for DD: absolutely hilarious parody of a prominent politician in full flood of tosh. I’ll try to explain Fence Wars at a later date. It may be that appeasement has occurred because life is too short.
