Evenin’, all.

We had been enjoying the joyful strains of a ten year old’s birthday party (over the back fence) and so I was sad to drag myself away for a quiet and delicious pub lunch with DS and DiL. Usual Sunday lunch stuff, well cooked and served. Rain has stopped play for the revellers, so peace will reign until early tomorrow when the gas board return.

Grabs gin…

Gulps gratefully.

My new house has a brand new kitchen & utility, fitted with brand new oven, hob, microwave+hot air thingy, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. All very nice but I have been reading the manuals and my brain hurts - why do they have to make everything so complicated? And why on earth would I want to be able to use my phone to turn the dishwasher on when I’m not at home? Beats me.

Before I fell ill I wanted to be able to phone my oven to have dinner cooked by the time I got home

It never happened as I fell ill and no longer had to go to work

An oven I can understand, that is useful, but a dishwasher? You have to be present to load it so why not switch it on then? It can’t matter if it finishes before you get home, surely.

As to the ā€˜microwave with hot air’, I’m putting that manual off until last, at the moment I’m not even sure what the ā€˜hot air’ part is for.

…shares nicely. The thought of a new kitchen - even without all the folderolic stuff that would baffle me - fills me with horror. However, I’ll be pleased to learn with you about such things, TFM. We’d have been putting our house on the market, were it not for the mud and general trenchiness, and I may have need to know about other kitchen goings-on.

I’ll be happy to share anything I learn, assuming I do actually manage to learn (so far, I understand the fridge/freezer but the washing machine and dishwasher have me baffled), about new appliances, soo. (The same applies to the business of buying and selling houses, about which I now know more than I ever wished to.)

Yes - it’s almost 40 years since we bought this house with the proceeds of one we sold. I sold Mam’s house, but that was to a cash buyer who bought all of the fixtures and fittings gladly. Ugh…Gin?

You have got off lightly. I just added it up and this will be the 11th house I’ve bought, plus guiding Lou through buying 3, and recently selling OMCB’s flat on top of that.

Definitely!

Chin-chin, Dearie!

I have indeed got off lightly and feel a bit overwhelmed on account of my lack of experience, really. Best dreams, TFM and Cellarites, all.

You’ll find out the first time you go to bed and realise you forgot to turn it on. Particularly in winter. (There was much I liked growing up in East Anglia, but not the north winds. There was basically nothing between us and the Arctic apart from the occasional sheep.)

A bit of digging suggests you have a combined microwave / air fryer. Given how much use both of those get here, it sounds like it could be handy…

ā€œā€¦so you’re telling me it’s like frying, only without the specific thing that makes frying worth doing? Isn’t this just a Baby Belling without the hot plates?ā€

Air fryers are fabulous I am into the transfer from range to Ozpig + various things as the range is too hot in summer to comfortably work at

Half a ton of cast iron with black enamel radiates a lot of hot into a room with no ventilation or extractor fan
