Hasnāt stopped hereā¦
I hope it was, Carinthia. And that you slept and are feeling better now.
It started here about an hour after I had fallen asleep, not ideal as our bedroom here has a skylight which made it sound v loud. Filthy rain it was too, can hardly see out of the windows this morning.
Sometimes, here, when it has been raining the cars on the drive are covered in sand. This is something I had not met before in other places, and I donāt really believe it has come from the Sahara, so my reaction is generally āWhy?ā
Because the weather is a lot more energetic than it used to be.
Why sand? This is serious question; we are a fair old way from the sea and have no local quarries.
Happens here too, Fishy
Sahara sand is always the given reason forrit

Fine dry sand is light and relatively easy for an energetic wind system to carry long distances. Yes, this didnāt happen ten years ago, because wind systems that energetic mostly didnāt happen ten years ago. Anything further, I fear, is for the politics thread.
Itās a well documented phenomenon. When lots of wind meets lots of Sahara, lots of very fine dust finds its way into the upper atmosphere (the heavier stuff is mainly for sand-blasting camels and the like). Too high and light to fall on their own, the dust particles hitch a downward lift on raindrops. Prevailing winds determine whose car and wheelie bins get a fuzzy red coating this week.
This post was already in the upper atmosphere. Soz.
I have walked in from the Utiddly Room & my skirt has fallen down
