An afternoon has been spent sorting out books for keeping/charity/disposal. We made inroads, but what a horrible and misery-making job. Being the chosen repository for Bibles has meant that we have many, for one thing - we found one that belonged to my Great Aunt Winnie and it has a photo of a choirboy in it. She never married, so maybe there’s a story there? Anyway, I can’t chuck it oot. I have also clung onto many books that just can’t leave the hive (wherever it ends up).

In this scenario, yes. I found, for example, two Wodehouse that I should have returned to a dearly departed…Plus, I can’t find Archy and Mehitabel - where the flip izzit? So many other books with meaning for me. The Myths of Ancient Greece and Rome? Oot, but I read them, all. Mam’s social history books? Oot. Time forran G&t.

Eek! I’ve just stepped out into the big grey room and it’s all sunny! I can even see the planes on the runway (about 500m from here).

Compared with the soft south it has been.pleasantly cool, unheard of for an indoor venue. I’ve even got socks on!

I was at G’s last nigh cooking risotto for four

At the last minute I was told that I was feeding 6

Thankfully I had ingredients for our week’s menu and I could grab extra to fill the gaps for two gannets!

The plate of antipasti was hoovered up with great alacrity and the ice cream with honeycomb from the Italian cafe near where grew up was really enjoyed

I hope folk don’t think I am boasting about being able to adapt at short notice
