It has become a real favourite, as it is so fresh & crunchy & I can eat it at anytime.

Jacket potato with corned beef today. I may do more potatoes & plan for corned beef hash later this week.

I have fished chicken and veg pie fillings out of the freezer and made shortcrust pastry so we are dining on pie tonight

I think I will add some peas and sweetcorn to ensure we have our vitamins

I was given a bouquet and a thank you card from my home help’s Mama today

Apparently the Christmas cake I made her was delicious

I can’t believe it, I’m just back from my assessment appointment at the eye clinic and I have an appointment to have the first eye done next Tuesday - that is exactly 4 weeks after I saw the optician - and the other eye 9 days after that. That’s what I call service. And I honestly don’t think the cataracts are all that bad really, not when I can still read* and drive with no problems.

*I say that but I’m struggling to read right now, my pupils are so dilated from the drops they put in I look like something from a horror film.

Wahey! Well done that eye clinic!

I could see well enough to read before mine, but the difference when they had been done was remarkable, particularly as regards colour: I hadn’t noticed how much that had leached out of my life until it was suddenly back again.

I wouldn’t be surprised if cataract surgery is the most efficient elective NHS procedure in cost/benefit terms.
So glad it’s all going through so quickly for you.

I gather symptoms vary and I don’t believe my colour vision has been much affected, though I may discover different when it has been done, For me the worst thing has been glare from sunlight, I can hardly see a thing out in the sun and even my very good prescription sunglasses make no difference.

Less time to dread the actual procedure anyway!

I do believe this is the case. Very glad that you’ll benefit from this attention, soon, TFM.

Carinthia - our lovely Fishwives are planning to retire, soon. The Knitting one not until next year, but our gloriously Miz one will disappear in April. They send their best wishes for a HNY to you.

Fennel and butterbean stew did the trick, this evening.

None that I could see, Carinthia. I daresay that there may be young pretenders in the wings.

As long as the place doesn’t fold without them Soo…

They are so knowledgeable & reliable.

Fish was the only thing my Mother bought without knowing the weight of it. She would ask for ‘fish for 3’, & the correct amount would be found, inspected & bought.
Good Friday meant 4 mackerel. My Father didn’t particularly like fish, but he feared the wrath of God more…:joy:

Fish when I was a child appeared hung on Grandma’s kitchen door

Usually a large cod or salmon

Sometimes a turbot

The worst ever was when I was with her for dinner at a friend of hers and dabs were in season

New potatoes and a whole dab cooked in under seasoned milk plonked on your plate

The milk was allegedly a sauce for the potatoes

As a 6 year old I hated trying to eat the horrible bony thing neatly and leaving the skin on the side plate

Nasty thing to serve a child who hated fish

And manners meant you ate it all and left no bits of good food

Thank the gawds I am now able to say I hate fish
