Hah! The Cat is called Ruby and sheā€™s a very beautiful calico. DS was asked to look after her, for a while, by a friend whose other Cat had been bullying Ruby. Two years later, sheā€™s going nowhere.

I hope you cope with the new supermarket. Iā€™ll be going walkies, soon.

So that is three cats called Ruby in one small group of people. I had only known the name on a horseā€¦

But Iā€™m sure there are also people called Ruby. Emerald, Sapphire, Diamond, Topaz, Amethyst? Garnet, Beryl, Jasper, Pearl, Amber, Jade and Opal I have met.

(Topaz is in I Capture the Castle, and Diamond in At the Back of the North Wind, but I havenā€™t encountered them anywhere else.)

The Maā€™s cat was called Ruby when she acquired her. Renamed to Ebony.

ETA: there are quite a few bipedal Jaspers with recent number plates.
