A very large number of them bred because they could and because not breeding is more trouble, requiring thought as it does.
And the ones who couldn’t breed demanded children as a right (not a duty or a responsibility) and spent many years and many hundreds of thousands of pounds on their quest for conception, which they assumed would be the same as fulfilment.
Though anyone looking after herds of childer that are pampered by their parents out of guilt that they are away at work all day needs a medal for sheer bravery and patience and tolerance
My mother once mentioned to an upwardly mobile young woman who had farmed out her children as soon as they were three months old that if she didn’t want to teach them her own ways of speech and manners, she could hardly complain when they used those of the woman who looked after them. Apparently they were getting nasty lower-class speech patterns…
In other words a return to a proper apprenticeship system and dumping the nonsensical idea that anyone who doesn’t go down the academic route is somehow a failure. In Germany, they are accorded equal status; it doesn’t seem to have harmed their economy.
My father was in the academic world for about forty-five years (and on all sorts of committees about this sort of thing) and said for several decades that university needed to be university and the technical colleges needed to be brought up to equivalence, but then Tony Blair happened with his “50% at universities” ambitions and the whole system started to fall apart.
It was, as we all know, a way to try to keep people in education and off the dole.
My work qualifications were all in house on the job training and were hard won
2 years on the job training after 3 months intense training on a live in basis then a final 3 week course with exams to determine your ability to do the job
Then several 3 week courses and a 4 week driving course
I was well qualified with precious little certificates to show for it
On walkies, today, we happened upon a man and woman of roughly our age group. The woman wished to talk and in short order she told us that she was a “big Boris fan”. I declared that I wasn’t and she told me that nobody could have done better. I desisted. She then declared that there are “too many scientists” and I countered with he’s one and so is our SiL. I am being very, very restrained, but this is not easy for me. Thank you for listening.

Freedom Alliance, they call themselves here. I went and dug up their web site, which smells strongly of American Libertarian. Starts off sounding quite reasonable if you don’t know their catchphrases, then it gets a bit iffy, then “the Bank of England shouldn’t have a monopoly on printing money”…
The mask denial isn’t mentioned there, incidentally. Though their local candidate (who’s standing for parish council too) gave her party affiliation as “Freedom Alliance - No More Lockdowns” which is a bit of a clue even without having to look at actual news.
