The Ma mentioned something about HMQ and Paddington last night. Sounded a bit odd, but I just let it wash over me. Turns out it was an actual Thing. Investigating further, I came across this observation on mumsnet. Wish I could believe it was deliberate.
I’m not sure they’re not surreptitiously promoting democracy-ironically, in the teeth of the elected government: first they had Boris read the Phillipians piece on the virtue of truth and honesty. Next, they had Paddington, the famous refugee welcomed by this country, directly thank the Queen for everything, less than a fortnight before the first morally repugnant deportations to Rwanda.
It’s odd that the story is about an American convoy, yet the picture is very obviously of Ottawa!
The road in front of our Houses of Parliament is now blocked to vehicle traffic, which is actually nice. Shame they didn’t think of that before. Though, actually, the most hideous part of the convoy was for people who lived in the downtown streets, an area that is very mixed, not wealthy necessarily at all, so lots of people with no option other than to be subjected to the trauma of the deafening noise and the pollution of the diesel for weeks on end. I do not know how it can possibly have been allowed to continue that long, a question many are asking.
We got off lightly, we were just far enough from downtown not to hear the horns or breathe the fumes.
Oh, Raw Story notoriously use random pictures. For instance, any story about anyone even remotely connected with the previous president usually has a picture of an orangetang face at the top no matter how irrelevant he may be.
President Michael D Higgins spoke yesterday at the opening of a project providing transitional housing for the homeless in Naas. One of those events at which the guest of honour turns up, utters a few boilerplate platitudes, cuts the ribbon and buggers off.
Yeah, a masterclass in not buggering off, and of speaking from the heart, and recognising the importance of language. Home.
Oh, and a great ‘stop sitting around scratching yer arses’ message in there too, but not so crudely put.
Finally tracked down a direct link to the video of Truss’s Irish lesson, since the Twitter one above seems a tad convoluted (read: impossible) to access:
You probably know this anyway, but the five US states which have brought in an immediate ban on abortion following the overturning of Roe v. Wade (Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, South Dakota & Oklahoma) have something else in common: all have the death penalty.
What I really don’t understand is that anyone is surprised, after Mitch McConnell cheated and lied to make sure the Supreme Court would be packed with anti-abortion religious fanatics and MCP rapists…
They’ll get round to allowing individual states to ban contraception some time next year. After that we can expect homosexual marriage to be in their sights.
