Two phrases which most users of don’t seem to understand have cropped up a lot recently elseboard; coming across both in rapid succession just now has brought down the red mist.
‘Survival of the fittest’ - no, this does not mean ‘gym-addicted bores will be fine’.
‘One/a few bad apples’ - does not mean 'the vast majority of [individuals in whatever group] are benign and trustworthy and there is therefore no reason ro be wary of [whatever group].

Nobody seems to realise that what they have just said is “the whole lot is probably rotten”. The original is “One bad apple spoils the barrel.”

i can’t remember when last I heard that one used correctly.
However, it makes me happy to think of curates as some form of clerical platypus. That falls under NFG (normal for Gus).

I came across one the other day that was a candidate for this thread, and dammit, I’ve forgotten what it was (apart from being wince-inducing). Will do my upmost to recall it.
Looking at an American website, on this occasion. Donated more funds to Kiva and was treated to a message informing me that my balance would be updated momentarily. I was hoping it would be there a little longer than that.
Though all too often depressingly accurate, IME
