Is this the one during which he said that he thought wearing a mask made him look like the Lone Ranger? Thus demonstrating his abysmal ignorance about both things?

(I have resolved not to listen to him unless I absolutely can’t avoid it.)

No (but see above!)

This is Florida residents at a hearing about the proposal to make masks mandatory. The “evidence” against would be hilarious–if this were fiction

This sort of stupidity really does seem to be endemic. I remember one of the arguments against (very limited) gun control proposals was that “the 2nd Amendment is part of the Constitution, and you can’t change the Constitution”.

Yes; the word “amendment” clearly means nothing to them and never has.

Just tell 'em that if you can get rid of the 2nd you can also get rid of the 13th and 15th…

Yerss, well our very own ‘leader’ more or less told us to please ourselves, didn’t lead, & seemed faintly surprised when it all turned to Shite…

Pubs open this weekend too…

I suspect a lot of them would support that.

I’d worry about the 22nd, too

And hurrah! to that. But most children still aren’t able to go to school.

All the more reason to open the pubs.

Is ‘our’ Pub able to open?

Maggie has said things which lead me to believe she’ll open the garden at least.

Graham had covid quite badly and was in hospital for thirteen days, and I have no idea how well he has recovered.

Well, he’s ambulatory. But at least this means they’re likely to take it seriously.

Poor Graham.

Recovery seems to be quite a long process for some people

The garden would seem to be the only possibility, given the configuration of the pub itself.

Bookings are being taken at pubs with outdoor spaces here, with the car parks of some having extra tables & chairs brought in.

I was never a stand at the bar person anyway, but that has all ceased now

Strange & difficult times.

This may be a depressing read from The New Statesman, but try it if you’re feeling robust.

It is depressing, Soo, & I have felt that I have been banging on about the dangers & delays to no avail since February. I was shouted at in a shop for covering my nose & mouth, by a ‘customer’ who believed that it was a conspiracy theory…

I (almost) wish that I could have produced 1 of my infamous sneezes, which could clear a small Tesco…

I’d carry pepper around with me for that very purpose, Carinthia, if I could muster such magnificently terrifying sneezes.
There is a train of what passes for thought that ‘it’s all over’ - well, even if that were true, heads should roll (or at least be soundly smacked, imo). But, it’s not true and I dread to imagine in how many more ways this country can be let down by such a bunch of criminally incompetent barstewards.

Up to a point, CopperBee, but a sizable minority bluddy well asked for it.

Yes, some asked for it, but I blurry well didn’t, Gus.

Indeed not. It doesn’t serve you right: it does them.

I have been thinking about the ‘lockdown’ and have decided that the young ones have been disproportionately affected by the isolating effects and the danger to jobs, plus being in hock for the rest of their lives (possibly) to pay off the debt incurred. It seems that drunk people can’t maintain social distancing (who’d have guessed?), so I am starting to believe that the young ones and those who feel less at risk of contracting the Plague in a harmful way should have this freedom, providing they then respect those of us who may more vulnerable and play by the rules in supermarkets etc. There is a bit of a generational war going on, I feel. Sorry - badly expressed, I’m sure. Stay safe, Cellarites,
