The “second wave” of the Spanish 'flu pandemic was fatally severe and seems to have been caused by a mutated virus spread by wartime troop movements. Phew - at least we aren’t going to be so stupid as to move people around in such numbers. Oh, hang on…
Frankly, I am utterly fed up with the stupid decisions being taken on our behalf and could almost believe that eugenics is alive and kicking.

Take heart: not only does remdesivir not work particularly well on any of the things they have tried it on since they developed it in 2009, its side effects are quite likely to be lethal, and we have a better drug of our own to do that job anyway.
Trump and his lads have almost certainly done this panic-buying for one of two reasons: either the people who run Gilead Sciences which makes remdesivir are friends or supporters of Trump, or Trump desperately needs to appear to be doing something, anything, to persuade the voting population that he gives a damn about them. Or both, of course.

Either large pharma or large farter. Remdesivir is not, as I understand it, a magic bullet. It’s one of those instances where prevention is definitely better than cure. How to manage our populace to achieve this is a bit of a problem.

Starting by persuading more than fifty per cent of said populace to do anything about it at all is a start, I feel. That is the bit America got wrong: more than fifty per cent of them apparently did nothing and took no precautions, as instructed by their president, and are now wondering why they are getting the disease more than anywhere else except Brazil, which did the same…
