It’s all so subjective, innit? I like many different types of music, but there are occasions when a tune ‘jarrs’, & I simply can’t be doing with it.
It’s the same with dancing, which I used to love. The music has to be right for it in my head & opinion . The same thing happens when I watch ‘Strictly’ - if the music doesn’t work, then, however good the dancers, I don’t enjoy it as much.
Then there’s music which is ‘important’ to us for whatever reason. Some days one can listen, but others, it’s absolutely impossible.
I’m stunned! I had no idea Lou’s song had been posted on here, before I even joined.
I know one or two on here know, from when I posted it on another board, that she wrote it as a goodbye to those she loved and it’s been on my ‘juke-box’ a lot today, as it often is when I’m feeling low. It makes me cry, but it makes me feel close to Lou too, and I think the recording is pretty good considering it was done in a hurry so it could be played at her memorial service.
Set of tunes from their second album, the recorder on which was contributed by - ahem - yours truly*.
*OK - I’ll come clean! The instrument, not the playing - which is the wonderful Marc Duff. He was studying recorder at Trinity College of Music and I got to know him through a few trad sessions in London. He was staying over one night and he picked up my old Moeck recorder and was very impressed with it. It was only a student model, but just happened to be a particularly nice one. I’d bought it when I was at school, but hadn’t played seriously in years and was unlikely to ever again. It seemed fitting that it should go to a home where it would be properly appreciated…
Fab, joe! As young things,we spent many happy holidays in the far NW of Scotland and after a day’s hiking we’d turn to Capercaillie and a wee dram or two.
