…and even though the neat 200 might suggest metric denomination, I shall not lightly surrender my notion of vast and billowing frills. Indeed, am already constructing a crinoline cage out of meccano, pipecleaners and a small, resentful whale in an uncharacteristic fit of helpfulness.
Oops. I am still unwell, is my excuse. Yes, five and a half yards is a lot.
Pore sufferin’ Fish. Ginger drinks and cosseting, that’s what you need.
It has reached the “cough if I breathe to hard or laugh at all” stage, which I hope means it is all happening in double-time and will be over in a couple of days.
[refrains from doin’ small silly dance]
The trees are being pruned along this avenue for the first time in years. They used to be done every 2 years, but this latest haircut has taken 5 years.
NDN paid for the 3 affecting us, to be done earlier in the year, so we have had some light.
Fiendish/Fearsome Ginger Drink wiv extra grated ginger & some honey could be soothing, Fishy

Right folks I am back
the bottom of the skirt is 50" on both sides of it
As I like a frill to be full when gathered to the right length I went for double length of the skirt bottom on each side ergo 100 inches of frill pre gathering
Two sides and you have 200 inches of frill which gathers into 100 inches of skirt bottom when sewn on
The skirt hem which is the bottom of the frill is still 200 inches to hem by hand
I don’t mind as the skirt is beautiful and looks great with the frill finishing the skirt off
And NO crinoline needed!
This is because I have a sturdy body (or fat body as some unkind folk say)
An’ ginger can suppositorily supposedly be most invigoratin’.
Not that I would condone for a moment any such experiments on a Fish: strictly for the horses, that.
Might honey-and-lemon be better for a throat which will be sore if I keep on with this coughing? I don’t know how much anti-congestant helps at this point.
Warm milk with a teaspoonful or so of black treacle dissolved in it. Foul but effective.
True, except that milk encourages mucus.
Pholcodine for short term use will help, especially at night
Carinthia.xx
Um, I thought that theory had largely been discredited.
Anyway, the milk-treacle treatment was inflicted on me at the instigation of a small but resolute great- aunt and it did wonders for a most intractable cough. Statistical sample of 1, of course ;- )
Or there’s the mixture to stop one barking like a seal - Phoque Off…
My citrus drink seems to be the thing here dear Fishy
Take a large jug and slice 2 lemons and oranges into it along with the juice of at least 2 more oranges and lemons
Add a good amount of honey and top with boiling water and stir
Taste and add honey to taste
Drink hot or cold and keep the jug in the fridge
As it has all the sliced fruit it has a pleasant bitterness as well as the hunny sweetness
Sounds excellent; I’ll add oranges and lemons to the fortnightly shop…
Back to this skirt,Twellsy ,& ignore Unkind Buggas
It is (going to be) very heavy, so make sure that you hang it properly onna skirt hanger with clips, NOT by any loops*,as the weight will pull it out of shape. If you use a stretch hanger,2 or 3 clothes pegs or bulldog clips along the top will help to keep the waistband straight & the weight even.
*Quality skirts used to have 4 loops in them to keep things in shape, but many now just have 1 at each side seam which, if used , knock the whole thing out of shape over time .
Carinthia.xx
It will be hung on a skirt hanger- the sort that has nice felt in between the bars that grip the skirt
Being a cotton poplin it’s no heavier than a lot of my skirts but the fabric was too dear not to look after properly
It needs a couple of darts to make it fit perfectly - B and I are looking forward to doing that and adjusting the band - M stitched it on and she doesn’t get the idea of leaving a bit longer than the skirt so the band sits right when the skirt hook is fastened
B understands this and helps with the alterations to make it just right so I forsee a band coming off and darts made then band put on again…
Sorry Twellsy, I thought that it was needlecord you had bought, but the same principle applies.
Carinthia.xx
Oi, wotchit, you. I’ve wasted a perfectly good whale on the underpinnings, I’ll have you know.
I thought it was needlecord too, so a fairly robust yet sproingy cage was indicated.
Well
The chicken soup has turned into an Substantial Soup with the addition of mushrooms, garlic, peas & sweetcorn.
For the first time in my life, I have used FR chicken stock, & itizz very good indeed.
I bought it for £1 which is half the usual price, or so I’m told.
It has taken all day for me to remember that chicken soup may help you, Fishy
Sigh
Carinthia.xx
For supper we are having slowcooker chicken made with lemon juice: would that do? (It has taken me most of the day to get that together, too.)
